Marks of Migration: Pappini (പാപ്പിനി)
The word Pappini in Malayalam vernacular means a group of Brahmin tribes. But, there is a village in Tamil Nadu by the same name.(பாப்பினி). It is in Kangayam block of Tiruppur district. It is about 12 K.M. to Kangayam. There are many places in Kerala with prefix Pappini, eg. Pappinissery (പാപ്പിനശ്ശേരി) Pappinivattam (പാപ്പിനിവട്ടം) etc. Pappinissery is a suburb of Kannur town. It is also a Grama Panchayat. Pappinivattam is a village in Kodungallur Taluk Of Thrissur District. Both the villages are census towns, and located by Arabian sea. These place names show the migration pattern from East to West. Pappini according to Malayalam lexicon is a section among Brahmin caste. Pappini originally a tribe, which, after the advent of agriculture and the beginning of permanent settlement might have been integrated into Brahmin caste.
